Collage of EGI staff and places across the region

The Economic Growth Institute has been very active this past year, serving as a resource and connector for businesses and communities across the Great Lakes region.

As you scroll through our annual report, you will see the many different places EGI has been working. While based in Ann Arbor, our team connects across the region, visiting small manufacturers, supporting innovation, and engaging local communities.

The region we serve is critical to industry and the nation’s competitiveness, and there are many inspiring stories to share. We hope you find this report informative.

Highlights

Business & Industry

EGI programs have served businesses across Michigan and the Great Lakes region for decades. Over just the past five years, EGI’s team has worked across the state with small manufacturers, technology startup companies, and defense suppliers.

Communities

EGI helps communities with stakeholder engagement, planning, and research to address economic impacts. Recent work includes addressing energy transitions as well as building regional economic development capacity.

Research

Over the last year, the research team has continued to investigate how companies and communities fundamentally address the growing need for equity and inclusivity in the economy. The need to build resiliency, adopt technology, and compete globally often includes efforts that directly or indirectly foster equity and inclusivity.

Education & Training

Working in collaboration with the College of Engineering Center for Entrepreneurship, the Institute has developed courses that challenge students to address complex business issues. The Institute’s Decision Coach program is helping organizations reach better decisions.  A new Employee Ownership Initiative is helping business owners learn about and evaluate the potential of ESOP programs.
