Carmen Wells Quigg is a senior project manager at the Economic Growth Institute specializing in fostering community engagement and providing targeted technical assistance to equip and build capacity in communities facing economic challenges. As an equitable economic development advocate, she connects resources to meet the needs of communities, coalitions, and partnerships to support economic stabilization and growth.
For over two decades, Carmen has managed publicly funded projects with local, regional, and national reach. She analyzes and assesses local and regional conditions, spearheads strategic planning initiatives, and facilitates partner conversations. Her accomplishments include working to harness resources and positive economic impact with over 25 economically and culturally diverse communities. She also has expertise in organizational leadership, board development, and facilitating consensus-building conversations. At EGI, Carmen also serves in a leadership role in several interoffice strategy teams, including DEIA, marketing, and business development.
A Michigan native, Carmen is enthusiastic about the state’s leadership role in innovation and industry diversification. Before joining EGI in 2008, she managed a small manufacturing job shop in Chicago where she led process improvement strategies. This included implementing new customer relationship management and invoicing software and leading marketing initiatives that generated new clients and contracts. Previously, she held a leadership role in the Michigan Neighborhood AmeriCorps Program, building capacity for neighborhood-based organizations in Detroit and Dearborn.
Outside of work, Carmen enjoys spending time outdoors with her family. Carmen has a B.A. in Communications with an emphasis in African American Studies from the University of Michigan and a Certificate in Entrepreneurship from Purdue University Calumet.
