Michigan manufacturers are facing major changes across the automotive and manufacturing industries. For small suppliers, adapting to those changes can be difficult without the right support.

The Michigan Auto Supplier Transition Program (MAST-P) helps small manufacturers explore new opportunities, strengthen their business operations and diversify into growing industries — at no cost.

Funded through a federal small business initiative and administered by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), MAST-P connects small suppliers with:

  • Expert guidance,
  • Technical assistance, and
  • Financial support resources to help them succeed in a changing market.

How MAST-P Helps You

MAST-P helps small manufacturers strengthen their business and transition from internal combustion engine (ICE) components to adjacent industries, including:

  • Aerospace
  • Defense
  • Electric Vehicles
  • Clean Energy 

The goal is simple: help small manufacturers remain competitive and grow as industries evolve.

Who the Program is For

MAST-P is designed specifically for very small businesses that are part of or connected to the automotive supply chain.

Your company may qualify if:

  • Your business is connected to the ICE supply chain
  • Your business has under 10 employees or is owned by Socially and Economically Disadvantaged Individuals (SEDI), including those from underserved communities
  • Your company NAICS codes are 31-33
  • Your company is located in one of these Michigan counties:
    • Oakland
    • Wayne
    • Macomb
    • St. Clair
    • Lapeer
    • Kent

What you Receive

Companies accepted into MAST-P will work directly with legal, accounting, and financial professionals who provide tailored guidance at no cost.

Legal Services

Help identifying legal risks and compliance gaps, plus connections to specialized legal experts when needed.

Account Support

Support to understand costs and financial reporting, improve pricing and profitability, and strengthen day-to-day accounting practices.

Financial Guidance

Training and advisory services to interpret financials, improve financial management, and prepare for lending, investment, and other capital opportunities.

These services are delivered through a coordinated network of trusted Michigan organizations working together to support small manufacturers.

How the Program Works

MAST-P is designed to make getting help simple.

Step 1 — Submit an application form
Tell us about your company and what you’re looking to achieve.

Step 2 — Application review
Your information is reviewed to determine eligibility.

Step 3 — Start working with EGI
Eligible companies work with EGI to assess business needs and opportunities, develop an opportunity plan, and connect to grant funded legal, accounting, and financial technical assistance projects at no cost to the company.
